PROJECT BRIEF
Named “Exploring Details” this project required me to select a furniture company as inspiration to design a contemporary accent or side table whose primary material is made of wood. The brand I chose was Broyhill, which had a Brasilia line of home furniture in the 1960s that was directly inspired by Oscar Niemeyer’s architecture in Brasilia, the capital city of Brazil.
The primary objective was to observe the visual language inherent in the company and to use the historical and visual associations present in their furniture to guide the final design. Each visual element in this piece was carefully selected to reference a piece of architecture by Niemeyer.
